We are accepting applications for the 2010 course. Next course starting October 4th 2010 - February 25th 2011.
1. Complete a Training Course Application Form.doc to start the ball rolling. (Compatible with Windows XP)
2. Attend a preparation weekend and/or an interview day.
3. You will then be offered a place that you can accept or decline.
4. You will then need to pay a deposit and will receive pre-course preparation advice to advise on experience and kit you should try to acquire prior to the training course.

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC)
Before registering for the ML or SPA awards, you must have at least 12 months experience of hill-walking and have an interest of leading groups in the hills. Some of this you will gain on our course. You must be at least eighteen years of age, and be a member of the BMC.

Single Pitch Award (SPA)
Before registering for the award, you must have a genuine interest in rock climbing and the supervision of groups on single pitch crags.
The Training Course is at least two days. Before undertaking the course you must have at least twelve months experience of rock climbing, and have led a minimum of 15 graded outdoor climbs with leader-placed protection. Some of this climbing experience will be gained with us.
In the Consolidation PeriodYou are advised to climb at as wide a range of venues as possible, both as an individual and when assisting the supervision of others. A minimum of six months between training and assessment is recommended by the MLTE
The Assessment Course is two days. Before you undertake the assessment, you must have:
Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE)
When you register you will be issued with a logbook for recording your walking and supervising experience.
The Training Course is six days, and before attending the training course you must have logged at least twenty quality mountain days.
During the Consolidation Period should be you will be expected to increase your personal experience in mountain areas, preferably including some practice in leading groups. You will need to have logged a minimum of 40 quality mountain days, including at least eight nights camping, four of which must be wild camping.
The Assessment Course is again five days with and two night expedition. Your result will be either pass, deferred or fail.You must hold a current 2 Day first aid certificate when you undertake the assessment.

This is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddle sport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, both in canoe and kayak learning a variety of skills in journeying and boat movement
UKCC Level 1 Paddlesport
White Water Safety & Rescue (WWS&R)
Designed for all paddlers operating in a moderate to advanced white water environment in either kayak or canoe. In addition, the training is required for those seeking their 4 star leader (white water or open canoe) award.
The objective is to provide the underpinning knowledge and teach simple and safe practical skills that can be applied appropriately. By it’s nature the course is very ‘hands on’ and should not usually contain much classroom work. Any theory should be short riverside sessions, the duration of which will be naturally limited.

Royal Yachting Association(RYA)Power Boat
Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy
Level 1
For novices, this RYA start sailing course will introduce you to the experience of sailing. Within this two day course you will learn all about boat controls, boat handling and experience sailing out on the open water by yourself. Much of your time will be spent afloat learning basic maneuvers and by the end of the course you will be able to helm a dinghy under the supervision of an instructor.
Level 2
To become a competent sailor in light winds with an introduction to sailing techniques, maneuvers, rigging, launching, capsize drill, safety and basic rules of the road. By the end of the course you should be able to sail in light winds without an instructor on board.
Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Power Boat
Level 1 & 2
No prior boating experience is necessary. This course equally suits those new to boating and those who have been boating for years. Most people take Level 2 and bypass Level 1 as it is not a requirement that you have Level 1 before you take Level 2.
Safety Boat
This course is designed to teach the skills necessary for those who wish to man a safety boat for their sailing club or RYA Training Centre. The course covers the safe rescue of crews, sailing dinghies, windsurfers, canoes and kayaks.
