Walking or Hiking, Scrambling and Rock Climbing are all similar in that they involve going up a mountain side either just on foot or using hands too. We always take ropes, harnesses and helmets for scrambling and rock climbing, and sometimes for hiking too if it’s the right plan for the route on the day.

Outdoor climbing activities take place on rock (slate, granite and limestone). We usually climb near Newby Bridge or in the Langdale valley doing single pitch (one ropes length max) sessions. We specialise in outdoor climbing activities appropriate for beginner and introductory sessions. Other sessions are available by request as we choose the appropriate crag depending on ability and experience in the group.

The maximum number in a group is 8 and we would expect that in a standard 1/2 day session each person will make 2-4 climbs or more, depending on ability and the venue conditions. We teach climbing techniques and belaying in all sessions for beginners and for more experienced groups we will progress the tuition to include rigging and lead climbing techniques.

Scrambling involves ongoing small climbs up a steep ascent. The beauty of this adventure is that it allows you access to areas beyond the casual hill-walker’s reach. Up there among truly impressive scenery, your journey will take you up 1000ft to a stunning view across the Lakeland fells and a real sense of achievement.

With our experienced walking instructors and guides you can go to the terrain of your choice without worrying about navigation, map reading or what to do if the weather turns. We have guide rates or instructional rates depending on the level of service required. Walking in the Lake District is one of the most popular choices of holiday in England. The magnificent views and the luscious green fells, rocky high mountains and fresh sparkling lakes give you real satisfaction and something to be proud of when you return to the lakeland pub for a real ale or glass of wine.

If there is any place that you have wanted to walk or hike in the Lake District, and either haven’t felt confident to navigate yourself, or aren’t sure if you have the correct equipment…we aim to give you that confidence and open up opportunities for you to discover the true Lake District and experience a great adventure.

Alternatively, we can coach you in navigation techniques and train you to navigate yourself without the need for a guide or instructor on our 2 day navigation training course, or a navigation refresher day, both with groups no larger than 6.
